The quiescent osteocyte (B, 5) still has its osmiophilic lamina close to the cell membrane. The amount of RER profiles has increased. It suggests the transition to the formative stage of an osteocyte.
The osteoblasts (B,7) do have an extended RER and an elaborate Golgi apparatus needed for the production of collagen fibres type 1 and bone matrix proteins.
