Title: Keratan sulfate expression in tectorial membrane of the Corti organ
Description:
Cochlea, immunoperoxidase staining with antibodies against keratin sulfate proteoglycan (KSPG) and AEC, frozen section,
4 days postnatal rat. In the organ of Corti is KSPG the predominant proteoglycan in the inner ear in the tectorial membrane.
It is firstly detected in chicken and chinchilla in otoconia and shows strong staining in murine otoconia as well.
KSPG may participate in sequestering and retaining Ca2+ for crystal formation because of its strong negative charges.
In vitro results indicate that it may interact with Oc90 and Otolin to form the matrix framework for depositions of calcite crystals.
