13.1 POJA-L4318+4655
Title: Splenic capillaries and sinusoids (human)
Description:
(A): Azan staining. Diffuse lymphatic tissue of the palatine tonsil. (1) Lymphoid cells. (2) Thin walled venule. (3) Invagination lined with squamous epithelium (crypt). (5) Degenerating squamous cells. (4) Sinusoids of the basic reticular tissue of the tonsil appear as slit-like spaces in routine staining.
(B): Silver stain. Spleen after washing out the blood cells. The sinusoid spaces are constructed with a meshwork of reticulin fibres, collagen III.
Background: Discontinuous capillary or sinusoid characterised by incomplete basal lamina and gaps (larger than fenestrae) in endothelium (liver, spleen, adrenal gland). They are endothelial-lined channels with a larger diameter than capillaries with discontinuous or no basement membranes. Sinusoids provide an open circulation routing.
Keywords/Mesh: cardiovascular system, vascularisation, palatine tonsil, spleen, capillary , endothelium, gap, basal lamina, sinusoid, histology, POJA collection
