7.2 POJA-L1722+1717
Title: Endometrial glands (uterus, human, adult)
Description: Stain: (A) Trichrome (Goldner); (B) CK 5, 7, 14, 19 (OVTL 12-5) immunoperoxidase staining with diaminobenzidin (DAB) and hematoxylin counterstaining.
Normal endometrial glands in midproliferative period (A) showing specific expression of keratin 7 (B).
(A): Cross-section of tubular glands (1) within cell-rich endometrial stroma (2). Capillaries with erythrocytes (3).
(B): Keratin expression exclusively in glandular epithelial cells (1), predominantly at their bases and apices. Endometrial stroma (2) is negative
Background: Columnar glandular cells in the female genital tract are positive for low molecular weight keratin protein, e.g. cytokeratin 7, in contrast to squamous epithelium that expresses high molecular weight keratin, e.g. cytokeratin 18. During abnormal differentiation of glandular epithelium CK 7 expression remains preserved. Endometrium carcinomas (e.g. endometrioid type) always show CK 7 positively as well as their potential distant metastases.
Keywords/Mesh: female reproductive system, uterus, endometrium, keratin 7, midproliferative period, histology, POJA collection.
