Title: Tubal pregnancy (human, adult)
Description: (A) Macroscopy. (B) Stain: Hematoxylin-eosin.
(A): Surgical specimen with fetus and umbilical cord; at (→) the shining, transparent amnion and at (**) chorion formation with hemorrhageous clots. (By courtesy of G.P. Vooijs MD PhD, former Head of the Department of Pathology, Radboud university medical center, Nijmegen, The Netherlands).
(B): Survey of cross-section of oviduct with central hemorrhage (1), fibrinoid (2) with embedded swollen chorionic villi (3) adhered to proper lamina. At (4) muscle layer.
Background: Most common variety of ectopic gestation occurs in the ampullary section and usually end by tubal rupture into the peritoneal cavity or by extrusion through the abdominal ostium. Generally no true decidua is developed. Impaired embryo-tubal transport as well as altered tubal environment likely causes the retention of the embryo in the tuba.
Keywords/Mesh: female reproductive organs, oviduct, ectopic pregnancy, tubal pregnancy, female genitalia, macroscopy, histology, POJA collection.
